It's been a heartbreaking few days for Friends fans everywhere since the death of actor Matthew Perry.Perry, who played everyone's favorite friend, Chandler Bing, passed away in his Los Angeles home on Saturday, October 28th.He was reportedly found unresponsive in his hot tub, but as of right now, his cause of death in unclear. He was only 54 years old.Perry began his acting career at the young age of 10 years old, but he didn't become a household name until his role in the beloved '90s sitcom. After Friends ended in 2004, Perry went on to act in other bigger projects, such as Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, 17 Again, and his most recent acting project in 2017, The Kennedys After Camelot.Though he recently took a break from acting, Perry released his memoir in November of 2022.In the book, he addressed the addictions he struggled with for most of his adult life.He was very open about his issues, and in Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir, he revealed that he had a few near-death experiences in his lifetime that inspired him to get sober.Since the actor's death, hundreds of Friends fans have flocked to the apartment building that was featured in the show as the place where the gang (minus Ross) lived. The building is in the West Village, sitting above a Mediterranean restaurant, Little Owl, should you, too want to visit a place not where Matthew Perry lived, but where he lives on in fans' hearts.Though we know him best for his on-screen personalities, the actor was also a mini real estate mogul, and bought and sold his fair share of mansions in his career. Below, we've laid out all the homes Perry has owned and sold during the course of a life that brought so much joy to so many people.1995: Matthew Perry Buys First Hollywood Hills HomeRon Davis//Getty ImagesAfter the first season of Friends, Perry bought a 2-bedroom house in the Hollywood Hills, a residential neighborhood in Los Angeles well known for being a celebrity hub. This was the first ever home Perry bought, and he sold it in April of 2001 for $839,000.The beginning of his real estate portfolio, the house was a modest 2,000 square feet.In a 1995 interview with the Toronto Star, Perry was quoted saying, "A Hollywood house, in the Hills. It’s the law when you have a successful sitcom: Between the first and second seasons, you buy a house." 1999: Matthew Buys a 1970s Beverly Hills MansionJeff Kravitz//Getty ImagesFor a reported $3.2 million, Perry purchased a 6,500-square-foot home in the Beverly Hills area. Without waiting for his first home to sell (which turned out to be a pattern of the star's), he bought this 1970s mansion and upgraded it with all the normal features you would find in a celebrity's bachelor pad.He apparently put in a screening room, a home gym, a wine cellar, and a game room, to name a few of his extra amenities. He sold the property in 2005 for $6.1 million.2005: Matthew Buys the "Pier House" in Malibu, CaliforniaJeff Kravitz//Getty ImagesPerry bought this beachfront mansion, known as the Pier House since it overlooked the Malibu Pier, for $6.55 million.Located in the Serra Retreat area of the city, it sat on a hillside above the coastline. The four-bedroom, six-bathroom contemporary estate was built in 1981 on a two-and-a-half acre property.in watching the ocean from the multiple fall walls of glass facing the Pacific. The Pacific was right outside the expansive deck—and visible from the multiple glass walls facing the ocean, but the property came with a swimming pool and a meditation garden to encourage even more tranquility.Perry used this calming property for a noble cause. He decided to transform it into a sober living facility called the Perry House to help others with the same afflictions he had experienced. The facility ran until 2015.After it closed, Perry sold the property for $12.5 million.2005: Matthew Buys a Sierra Towers Condo from Elton JohnSteve Granitz//Getty ImagesThe same year he purchased the Pier House, Perry snapped up a corner unit in the Sierra Towers building was previously owned by Sir Elton John and sits in the West Hollywood area.
